Step 06 · After it exists

If RevOps is working, one meeting should die.

A mandate without a way to live with it becomes another reporting religion. The executive job after RevOps exists is smaller than the briefing: pick the numbers that may appear in the room, pick the cadence that keeps the dictionary frozen, and name the ways this dies before they name you.

Eight to ten numbers. Four families. Growth quality: coverage and conversion by segment, win rate and cycle time, new versus expansion mix. Predictability: forecast accuracy and bias, stage aging. Efficiency: payback if Finance will sign it, quota capacity versus attainment. Retention: gross and net retention, time-to-value, expansion pipeline from Customer Success.

Each number has one owner and the meaning from the dictionary. No owner, it is decoration. Two owners, it is an argument. The board may want twenty KPIs. The meeting still runs on ten.

Weekly: pipeline inspection with the CRO and RevOps, inside the system of record. Monthly: funnel and the handoff SLA — breaches visible, no new metrics. Quarterly: capacity, compensation conflicts, stack against the freeze. Annually: the go-to-market model and a blunt read on the four pillars.

The meeting that should die is the one titled some version of whose number is right. If it still exists at day 90, the dictionary did not take.

Score the four pillars from one to five if you want a shared language. A company that is weak on data and strong on tools is a common, expensive shape. If the scores feel corporate, skip them and keep the four questions: is there a referee, does one seam hold, will Finance sign the dictionary, is buying frozen unless it fixes a named gap?

Name the failure modes while you still like each other. Relabeling Sales Ops. Buying a platform before definitions exist. Forty dashboards, zero decisions. RevOps with no authority over Marketing or CS data. Measuring activity instead of system health. A transformation program with no thirty-day win. Parallel old reports. The referee carrying quota.

Two of those at once: stop adding work. Repair the referee or the dictionary.

The next gathering is day 30 of the mandate — not another briefing.
